Altitude is one greater factor that that leads to a reduced appetite. We offer hearty meals, rich in “good” carbohydrates, which is the most efficient fuel for optimizing performance at all altitudes”, speeding up recovery and rebuilding muscle glycogen stores for the activity. Carbohydrates diets are highly recommended as an intervention to alleviate symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness as it increases ventilation and blood oxygenation.
Foods rich in carbohydrates are often more palatable than foods rich in proteins or fats, and altitude changes your metabolic processes. The amount of hours on the trail as well as your body adjusting to altitude means you’ll require much higher energy requirement than you would have back home.
We only use fresh produce, and all food is carried up Mount Kilimanjaro by our porters.
