4 days Waterfall trail trekking Via Kilembe trail. Rwenzori Mountains National Park offers 4 days waterfall trekking nature walk to more than 6 waterfalls on the Rwenzori Kilembe trail Route. This 4 days trekking 6 waterfalls along the Kilembe trail of Rwenzori Mountains National Park, starts at Trekkers Hostel Kyanjuki, 12 kilometers from Kasese town past Kilembe Copper mines. Best to start by 8.30am but can leave as late as 10am. Meet your guides and briefing. You walk 2.2km to the UWA rangers post at 1,727metres.
Day 1. Hike to Sine Camp 2596metres. Altitude: 1450m – 2596m, distance covered: 9.5km, walking hours 7to 8.
We start by walking up the valley floor through tall forest trees of the Afro Montane Forest Zone. This is a steady climb with multitudes of birds and a chance of seeing blue monkeys scampering off through the forest. At times visitors may see troupes of 15 to 20 black and white Colobus monkeys as they swing through the tree tops. There are rare sightings of the L’Hoest monkey which are part of the Bukonzo cultural emblems and are protected by the virtue of the King or Omusinga or you may hear wild chimpanzee in the distance. There is wide variety of plant species from forest trees to bamboos thickets, low shrubs, flowers, fungi, and with many moss and lichen covered vines hanging from the tall trees creating an awesome appeal. Enock’s Falls are just 200 meters from Sine Hut and offer a splendid opportunity to capture a great screensaver for your memories.
At Sine Camp 2,596 metres we have wooden huts set between tall forest trees on a narrow ridge where you may sit and enjoy the beauty of the Afro Montane forest while you look down at a fantastic waterfall crashing over the rocks far below. Some clients prefer to sit outside enjoying the warmth of the campfire and chat to the guides about the mountains and life in their community. Sine is just below the bamboo zone and the area around has many different bird species. 150 meters from the camp is Enock falls which is set in livid green vegetation and hanging vine. Truly beautiful. Sleep at Sine, or those who are fit and want to proceed to Kalama Camp at 3,134 metres may do so and apart from the fantastic views gives you more time at Mutinda Camp where you may climb up to Mutinda Lookout at 3,975 metres.
Day 2. Hike to Samalira Camp 3170metres. Altitude: 2596m – 3170m, distance covered: 4.1km, walking hours: approx. 3 to 4
Hike up through the bamboo zone to Kalalama camp 3,134m enjoy the views at Kalalama which is the start of the heather zone before we continue to Samalira camp 3430metres, on the way you will meet a series of waterfalls namely Samalira falls which are calming and inspiring just at a meer glance and a beautiful lobelia garden, we will then head down to Samalira hut and check into our wooden cabins for dinner and and overnight.
Day 3. Hike up higher to see the different series of waterfalls. Altitude: 3170m – 2580m, distance covered: 8.6km, walking hours: approx. 4 to 6
This morning after breakfast we will go and explore a series of different waterfalls. Hike up to kamalha falls and continue higher then take the loop right below Cathy’s falls (You have an option of climbing up to see Cathy’s falls) then hike down to Nyamwamba falls and followed by Plozza falls where you can sit and have some lunch before we continue down to Engwe falls, then down to Forest View Camp 2580 meters for the night. The views at this camp are stunning, beautiful and simply give a rest from the day’s trek. It’s a wonderful place to meditate.
Day 4. Descend down to the basecamp 1450metres. Altitude: 2580m – 1450m, distance covered: 7km, walking hours: approx. 3 to 4
Descend down through the bamboo forests and back into the Afro Montane Forest Zone beaming up birds and primates. Just below Omusita Rest Area you may either continue straight down or branch to the left to slope down to a tral along the Nyamwamba River where the trees and forest is truly beautiful and continue on to the park entrance and back to the hostel.
