Rwenzori Trekking Adventure
This is a 7 Days Rwenzori Mountains trekking from the Nyakalengija starting point up to Guy Yeoman and back. Guy Yeoman stands at (3505 meters) above sea level. This adventure trip is for moderate climbers who want to have a soothing feel of the mountains. This trip can be done alone from Kampala or may be supplemented with a safari to any of the nearby parks.
Detailed Adventure Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Rwenzori Mountain National Park
You will be picked up from Kampala or Entebbe by our driver guide and start the journey to Rwenzori Mountain National Park. Arrive in the afternoon with an overnight stay at Ruboni Community Rest Camp of full board.
Day 2: Nyakalengija (1615 Metres) to Nyabitaba Camp (2651 Metres) above Sea Level
The central circuit begins from Nyakalengija at the foothills of Rwenzori Mountains. Wake up early, have breakfast and transfer to Nyakalengija. Be there here in time to acquire trekking equipment, meet the guides and porters as well as getting the climbing briefing. This trail commences by going through agricultural zone to the park borderline after which it follows a dense forest alongside the Mubuku River. It crosses the Mahoma River stream prior to beginning a lengthy, sharp ascent to an enormous elevation to arrive at Nyabitaba hut. Day 3: Nyabitata Camp (2651 Metres) to Guy Yeoman (3261 Metres)
As you ascend from Nyabitaba to Guy Yeoman, track on Mpanga ridge until you reach the river. Moving gently via the bamboo forest, navigate through an extensive and fatiguing section of greasy rock covered with moss. Standing at the Nyamuleju rock shelter, you would be able to Mount Speke and Stanley before going through the zone characterized by the lobelia, giant heather and groundsel among others. You will arrive at John Matte Hut after hiking through the strenuous bog to finish the day’s trail. Dinner and overnight at the hut John Matte Hut.
This climb lasts between 7 to 8 hours.
Day 4: Guy Yeoman to the Fresh Field Pass
After breakfast, move early in the morning through Mubuku Valley up to the rock shelters at Bujongolo and Kandahi, the base camp for the notable excursion in 1906 by the Abruzzi Duke. Hereafter, you will carry on a long vertically rock-strewn trail to have a night at the Fresh Field Pass Camping site.
The duration of the climb is between 5 to 6 hours.
Day 5: Fresh field Pass to Mount Baker to Fresh field Pass to Guy Yeoman for overnight.
In the morning, embark on the climb through to Mount Baker up to Edward Peak. The climbs lasts between 3 to 4 hours. Stay there for a while and then prepare to go downhill to the Fresh field pass. Continue via the steep rocky trails back to Guy Yeoman Camp for an overnight.
This down trekking is covered between 5 to 6 hours.
Day 6: Guy Yeoman to Nyabitaba down to Nyakalengija (1615 Metres) above Sea Level.
Under Guy Yeoman, the track goes down to Kichuchu overhangs. After Kichuchu, the muddy path leads through River Mubuku twice via a bamboo forest zone before descending to Nyabitaba to accomplish the 5 days circuit. Go on descending to Nyabitaba Camp and finish the hike by the evening at Nyakalengija, the base camp for Rwenzori hiking. The journey is covered between 7 to 8 hours.
From Here, the driver will pick you up to transfer to Kasese Town for overnight at Margherita Hotel on Full Board.
Day 7: Drive Back to Kampala
After Breakfast, start the journey back to Kampala where you will arrive in the afternoon. You will have lunch on the way back.
